I think the villain monologue is one of the most irritating plot devices to reveal the mystery to the readers; the only times I've ever seen it done well is when it's been done satirically.

I was honestly surprised to run into it in that book. The book wasn't a flawless paragon or anything like that, but it was good enough that the author didn't need to resort to that.

The only villain monologue I ever enjoyed was in Watchmen.

I'm no comic book villain. I wouldn't have told you my plan if you could do anything about it. I did it thirty-five minutes ago.
